Synopsis

All Sakura Minamoto has ever dreamed of is becoming an idol. She steps outside, gets hit by a truck, and dies. That's the first minute of the show. Ten years later she wakes up as a zombie in Saga Prefecture with no memory, and some loud, sunglasses-wearing weirdo named Koutarou Tatsumi tells her she's now part of an all-zombie idol group called Franchouchou. Their goal: save Saga's dying economy through song and dance. The other six members died across completely different eras of Japanese history, so you've got a courtesan from the 1800s trying to figure out modern life alongside a biker chick from the '90s and a child prodigy from the 2000s. The comedic mileage from that alone is worth the 12 episodes. MAPPA animated this, so the performance sequences actually look great, and the show has this weird confidence where it commits fully to its ridiculous premise without ever winking too hard at the camera. It's a parody of idol culture that also somehow works as a genuine idol show — the group's struggles to gel feel earned, and the character backstories hit harder than you'd expect from a zombie comedy. If you liked Love Live but wished it had more undead chaos, or if Sankarea and School-Live made you curious about zombie anime that doesn't take itself too seriously, this is the one. It's weird, it's funny, and it knows exactly what it's doing.
