Synopsis

As children, siblings Jinta and Suzune flee an abusive home and end up in Kadono Village, a quiet Edo-period settlement watched over by a mysterious shrine maiden. They're taken in by the village sentinel, Motoharu, and his daughter Shirayuki, and for a while things are actually peaceful. Jinta grows up, trains hard, and earns the sentinel role himself — partly to protect the village, partly because Shirayuki has become the new shrine maiden and he wants to stay close to her. Then he fights a demon in the forest, and everything falls apart. The demon dies but leaves Jinta with a cryptic prophecy and cursed powers he never asked for. He comes back to find his village burning, Shirayuki gone, and Suzune twisted into something unrecognizable. From there, Jinta's journey spans not just miles but entire eras, chasing his lost sister and whatever dark fate set all of this in motion. This is a 24-episode TV series from Yokohama Animation Lab, adapted from a novel, and it nails that blend of historical atmosphere and supernatural dread. The familial bond between Jinta and Suzune anchors the whole thing emotionally, even as the scope keeps expanding. If you liked the sibling tragedy in Dororo, the demon-slaying grief of Kimetsu no Yaiba, or the era-hopping tone of Inuyasha, this one threads a similar needle — just with its own darker, quieter edge.

To think we would see some acting like the old Suzune. I'm highly curious how Jinya will react to seeing her for real. Also, the spiritualist guy looks sketchy as hell.

This was a slower paced episode which causes Jinya to reflect on the memories of his foster father. We've gotten quite a few episodes presenting the relationship between father and child from abuse to selfless love.

I did not predict that twist! Something about how interconnected the world is reminds be of apothecary diaries. I do think that people who enjoy this will enjoy, and vice-versa.
