Coming directly after Episode 970's depiction of the Great Pirate Era's dawn and Roger's legacy, Episode 971 snaps the focus back to Wano and sharply escalates the stakes of Oden's conflict with Kaido and Orochi. This is a critical pivot point in the extended Wano flashback, transitioning from Oden's voyage era into the desperate fight for his homeland. It lays the emotional and narrative groundwork for the tragic events that follow and ultimately fuel the Akazaya Nine's resolve in the present-day raid on Onigashima.
