Synopsis

Fresh off winning the most brutal underground fighting tournament in the world, teenage martial artist Baki Hanma gets a hell of a reward — five death row inmates showing up in Tokyo looking for a fight. These aren't regular criminals — they're elite fighters from different countries who broke out of maximum security prisons at the same time, each one obsessed with experiencing defeat for the first time. And that's just the setup for this 26-episode ONA from TMS Entertainment. The real draw here is the sheer absurdity of the combat. Characters have physiques that look like anatomy charts came to life, every fight is grotesquely detailed, and the martial arts styles range from real disciplines to completely unhinged fictional techniques. The tone is dark and unapologetically over the top — people get hurt in ways that make you wince, and the show doesn't flinch. There's an intensity to the soundtrack and pacing that keeps the stakes feeling genuine even when the action goes completely off the rails. If you liked Kengan Ashura, this is its older, meaner cousin. Fans of Hajime no Ippo who want something with less sportsmanship and more broken bones will feel right at home. And if Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple was your gateway into martial arts anime, Baki is where you go when you're ready for the deep end. Just don't expect anyone to fight fair.
