Ape Escape
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When a monkey puts on a helmet, gets scary smart, and decides the best use of his new brain is building an army of chaos monkeys to take over the world — that's the setup for Saru Getchu: On Air, and it commits to that premise completely. Kakeru is a regular kid who gets recruited by a professor to chase down Specter and his increasingly unhinged monkey crew, armed with futuristic gadgets and a teleporter. His friends Hiroki and Natsumi come along, and the three of them spend 26 episodes basically playing the most stressful game of monkey tag imaginable. The monkeys aren't just running around — they're scheming, adapting, and causing very specific kinds of trouble that make each mission feel different from the last. The tone is light and funny throughout, with a comedic energy that keeps things moving without taking itself too seriously. If you grew up with Digimon Adventure or MegaMan NT Warrior, the structure will feel familiar — kids with gadgets, episodic missions, a bigger threat lurking in the background. It's also based on the Ape Escape video games, so fans of those will notice a lot of nods to the source material woven naturally into the story. The blend of CGI and traditional animation gives it a slightly different look than most kids' shows from the era. Nothing here is trying to be profound. It's just a fun, breezy watch that knows exactly what it is.
